Julia

What do you need to know? I'll stick to the basics. I'm a 23 year old girl living in the big city of Madison, WI. I just recently moved here after living in Milwaukee for 8 years, and then the lovely town of Oshkosh for 14. Like my Dad says, "Oshkosh is the perfect place to live if you want to raise a family...and go brain dead." I miss all my friends there, but needless to say I don't actually miss the town.

Here's 100 things about me:

  1. I have never had a roommate.
  2. I have lived on my own for the last 4 years (since I was 19).
  3. I never had a “real” boyfriend until the current boy.
  4. Who also happens to be the first boy I’ve truly loved.
  5. When I was a senior in high school, I participated in a Youth Options program which allowed me to go to college full time all while having the school district pay for my first year of college.
  6. The only class I attended at my high school my senior year was band.
  7. Okay, I admit it – I was a band geek (word to all those clarinet players) and I let my band director talk me into coming back my senior year even though I hadn’t originally planned on it.
  8. Sometimes I regret that I missed out on a lot of senior year experiences, but the fact that I hated my high school so much more than made up for the fact that I might be missing something.
  9. I have an AAS in Computer Programming and a BA in Computer Science.
  10. A year and a half after finishing my BA in Computer Science, I have now realized I want nothing to do with a computer related job.
  11. Which is why I am taking some psych and sociology classes to determine if I want to pursue my masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
  12. I decided on therapy because I wanted a job that would make a difference and one that would allow me to help people.
  13. My favorite food of all time is cheese.  Give me any type of cheese and I will eat it up.
  14. I heart warm brie and bread.  It is the best snack ever!
  15. Especially when you have it with some wine.
  16. Despite the fact that I always said I would never be like my mother, I have discovered I am in fact becoming her.
  17. I am anal retentive.
  18. And an overachiever.
  19. (I had a GPA of 3.95 in college).
  20. I am bossy to no end.
  21. But not quite as bossy as my mom.
  22. And I’ve just started eating off other peoples plates when they’re done eating and still have food left.
  23. That was the signal that I REALLY was turning into my mother.
  24. I have one older brother.
  25. Who I get along with really well, although we rarely talk or see each other now that I have moved.
  26. Which makes me somewhat sad.
  27. All in all I have a very good relationship with everyone in family.
  28. Including my parents, who I don’t know what I would do without.
  29. I am a Democrat, and proud of it.
  30. But I hate keeping up with politics and therefore have a hard time coming up with coherent arguments against Republicans that don’t include me telling them how stupid and selfish they are.
  31. Although one of my closest friends at work is a hardcore conservative.
  32. But we totally have a sense of humor about our differences.
  33. He calls me a dirty hippie.
  34. Which is somewhat accurate (not the dirty part).
  35. I have ridden in an orange 1972 VW Bus to go see Phish multiple times in a row.
  36. I helped to make patchwork curtains for the bus (which are the bomb if I do say so myself).
  37. I also rode in said bus to go to Bonnaroo in 2003.
  38. One time was enough and I will never go to that festival again (a hot, sunny field in TN with overflowing porta potties is not my idea of a good time).
  39. The best music festival I have been to is Summer Camp in Chillicothe, IL.
  40. I have gone two times and had a blast both of those times.
  41. I am going to Vegoose at the end of the month in Vegas so we’ll see how that matches up.
  42. I love to camp and hike and wish that I would have done more of both this past summer.
  43. For some strange reason, I own four tents.
  44. Wisconsin is a wonderful place to live if you love to camp.
  45. I don’t think I will ever leave Wisconsin.
  46. Although I use to talk about moving to Virginia.
  47. Not because I know anyone there or what I would do there but because I’ve heard it’s very beautiful and the winters aren’t as harsh.
  48. Now that I snowshoe and cross country ski Wisconsin winters aren’t nearly as bad.
  49. And I’ve really found my niche in Madison which is what I hoped for when I moved here a year ago.
  50. I don’t consider myself artistic in a conventional way.
  51. Although my friends and family consider me artistic in my crafty way.
  52. I taught myself how to knit and crochet out of books from the library when I was 12.
  53. I didn’t get serious about it again until a year ago.
  54. Now it consumes me and I wish I could quit my job and knit and be crafty the whole day long.
  55. I, as most knitters will tell you, have a yarn stash that is getting out of control.
  56. My ban on the yarn store has not worked very well and the stash keeps growing and growing.
  57. For my check book’s health (and my mental health) I need to start a newer stricter ban on purchasing yarn.
  58. I have a hunch it still won’t work very well.
  59. I also have a very large fabric collection stashed under my bed.
  60. My goal this winter is to put a large dent in that stash and then be able to buy more.
  61. And I am going to put a large dent into it by making purses and selling them online (like thousands of other crafters out there).
  62. As long as I can make some money to feed my yarn and fabric habit, I will be happy.
  63. I have had the same best friend for the last five years.
  64. She has that special ability that all best friends have to sometimes drive you up a wall.
  65. Which is why, for a six month period, we did not speak to each other.
  66. Despite all of our ups and downs she is the person that knows me the best.
  67. And when we keep something from each other we only do so because we don’t want to disappoint one another.
  68. I am named after my maternal grandmother.
  69. She died when I was 14 and there are times I miss her so much it hurts.
  70. She left me her engagement ring and I have worn it everyday since she died.
  71. Except for a 6 month period when the diamond had fallen out.
  72. I went to work one day and the diamond was gone and I was devastated.
  73. A month later, the day before my birthday, the diamond showed up on my bedroom floor.
  74. Which was totally odd due to the fact that I had vacuumed multiple times AND I have a cat.
  75. We all say finding the diamond was a birthday present from my grandmother.
  76. You won’t believe the number of people who have asked if I am engaged or married due to the ring.
  77. Although I do wear it on my right hand (you would think more people would pay attention to that).
  78. My favorite band of all time is The Beatles.
  79. I have loved them since I was 13.
  80. I own all their CDs and movies.
  81. And have more Beatles trivia stored in my brain than is necessary.
  82. My all time favorite movie is The Royal Tennenbaum’s.
  83. I have sick obsession with the TV show Gilmore Girl’s and I often watch it while attempting to be crafty.
  84. I hate black licorice and anything black licorice flavored.
  85. Peanut butter cups are my favorite kind of candy.
  86. Sour cream and onion potato chips are my favorite kind of snack food.
  87. My favorite beer of all time is Honey Brown.
  88. It is the beer that was the gateway into all other beer for me (and other alcoholic spirits for that matter).
  89. I use to think that I was allergic to alcohol because anytime I would drink, even a small amount, I would hurl my guts out and break blood vessels around my eyes from puking so hard.
  90. So I didn’t really start drinking until six months before I turned 21 (thank you Honey Brown)!
  91. I am not a very good cook, although I have been working on it.
  92. I never wear makeup.
  93. But I compulsively use chapstick (woot for Burt’s Bees).
  94. I have two cats: Taz, a fat cat I adopted from the Oshkosh Humane Society, and Simon, a Siamese that sort of kind of got pawned off on me.
  95. I am definitely a cat person, although I like dogs too.
  96. My parents have the most hilarious dog ever; a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Henna.
  97. When I see her, it makes me realize how much I want a dog.
  98. But my apartment is too small for two cats AND a dog.
  99. Which is why I keep trying to talk the boy into getting a dog (boy owns a house)
  100. He’s not having any of it.
