Julia
What do you need to know? I'll stick to the basics. I'm a 23 year old girl living in the big city of Madison, WI. I just recently moved here after living in Milwaukee for 8 years, and then the lovely town of Oshkosh for 14. Like my Dad says, "Oshkosh is the perfect place to live if you want to raise a family...and go brain dead." I miss all my friends there, but needless to say I don't actually miss the town.
Here's 100 things about me:
- I have never had a roommate.
- I have lived on my own for the last 4 years (since I was 19).
- I never had a “real” boyfriend until the current boy.
- Who also happens to be the first boy I’ve truly loved.
- When I was a senior in high school, I participated in a Youth Options program which allowed me to go to college full time all while having the school district pay for my first year of college.
- The only class I attended at my high school my senior year was band.
- Okay, I admit it – I was a band geek (word to all those clarinet players) and I let my band director talk me into coming back my senior year even though I hadn’t originally planned on it.
- Sometimes I regret that I missed out on a lot of senior year experiences, but the fact that I hated my high school so much more than made up for the fact that I might be missing something.
- I have an AAS in Computer Programming and a BA in Computer Science.
- A year and a half after finishing my BA in Computer Science, I have now realized I want nothing to do with a computer related job.
- Which is why I am taking some psych and sociology classes to determine if I want to pursue my masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
- I decided on therapy because I wanted a job that would make a difference and one that would allow me to help people.
- My favorite food of all time is cheese. Give me any type of cheese and I will eat it up.
- I heart warm brie and bread. It is the best snack ever!
- Especially when you have it with some wine.
- Despite the fact that I always said I would never be like my mother, I have discovered I am in fact becoming her.
- I am anal retentive.
- And an overachiever.
- (I had a GPA of 3.95 in college).
- I am bossy to no end.
- But not quite as bossy as my mom.
- And I’ve just started eating off other peoples plates when they’re done eating and still have food left.
- That was the signal that I REALLY was turning into my mother.
- I have one older brother.
- Who I get along with really well, although we rarely talk or see each other now that I have moved.
- Which makes me somewhat sad.
- All in all I have a very good relationship with everyone in family.
- Including my parents, who I don’t know what I would do without.
- I am a Democrat, and proud of it.
- But I hate keeping up with politics and therefore have a hard time coming up with coherent arguments against Republicans that don’t include me telling them how stupid and selfish they are.
- Although one of my closest friends at work is a hardcore conservative.
- But we totally have a sense of humor about our differences.
- He calls me a dirty hippie.
- Which is somewhat accurate (not the dirty part).
- I have ridden in an orange 1972 VW Bus to go see Phish multiple times in a row.
- I helped to make patchwork curtains for the bus (which are the bomb if I do say so myself).
- I also rode in said bus to go to Bonnaroo in 2003.
- One time was enough and I will never go to that festival again (a hot, sunny field in TN with overflowing porta potties is not my idea of a good time).
- The best music festival I have been to is Summer Camp in Chillicothe, IL.
- I have gone two times and had a blast both of those times.
- I am going to Vegoose at the end of the month in Vegas so we’ll see how that matches up.
- I love to camp and hike and wish that I would have done more of both this past summer.
- For some strange reason, I own four tents.
- Wisconsin is a wonderful place to live if you love to camp.
- I don’t think I will ever leave Wisconsin.
- Although I use to talk about moving to Virginia.
- Not because I know anyone there or what I would do there but because I’ve heard it’s very beautiful and the winters aren’t as harsh.
- Now that I snowshoe and cross country ski Wisconsin winters aren’t nearly as bad.
- And I’ve really found my niche in Madison which is what I hoped for when I moved here a year ago.
- I don’t consider myself artistic in a conventional way.
- Although my friends and family consider me artistic in my crafty way.
- I taught myself how to knit and crochet out of books from the library when I was 12.
- I didn’t get serious about it again until a year ago.
- Now it consumes me and I wish I could quit my job and knit and be crafty the whole day long.
- I, as most knitters will tell you, have a yarn stash that is getting out of control.
- My ban on the yarn store has not worked very well and the stash keeps growing and growing.
- For my check book’s health (and my mental health) I need to start a newer stricter ban on purchasing yarn.
- I have a hunch it still won’t work very well.
- I also have a very large fabric collection stashed under my bed.
- My goal this winter is to put a large dent in that stash and then be able to buy more.
- And I am going to put a large dent into it by making purses and selling them online (like thousands of other crafters out there).
- As long as I can make some money to feed my yarn and fabric habit, I will be happy.
- I have had the same best friend for the last five years.
- She has that special ability that all best friends have to sometimes drive you up a wall.
- Which is why, for a six month period, we did not speak to each other.
- Despite all of our ups and downs she is the person that knows me the best.
- And when we keep something from each other we only do so because we don’t want to disappoint one another.
- I am named after my maternal grandmother.
- She died when I was 14 and there are times I miss her so much it hurts.
- She left me her engagement ring and I have worn it everyday since she died.
- Except for a 6 month period when the diamond had fallen out.
- I went to work one day and the diamond was gone and I was devastated.
- A month later, the day before my birthday, the diamond showed up on my bedroom floor.
- Which was totally odd due to the fact that I had vacuumed multiple times AND I have a cat.
- We all say finding the diamond was a birthday present from my grandmother.
- You won’t believe the number of people who have asked if I am engaged or married due to the ring.
- Although I do wear it on my right hand (you would think more people would pay attention to that).
- My favorite band of all time is The Beatles.
- I have loved them since I was 13.
- I own all their CDs and movies.
- And have more Beatles trivia stored in my brain than is necessary.
- My all time favorite movie is The Royal Tennenbaum’s.
- I have sick obsession with the TV show Gilmore Girl’s and I often watch it while attempting to be crafty.
- I hate black licorice and anything black licorice flavored.
- Peanut butter cups are my favorite kind of candy.
- Sour cream and onion potato chips are my favorite kind of snack food.
- My favorite beer of all time is Honey Brown.
- It is the beer that was the gateway into all other beer for me (and other alcoholic spirits for that matter).
- I use to think that I was allergic to alcohol because anytime I would drink, even a small amount, I would hurl my guts out and break blood vessels around my eyes from puking so hard.
- So I didn’t really start drinking until six months before I turned 21 (thank you Honey Brown)!
- I am not a very good cook, although I have been working on it.
- I never wear makeup.
- But I compulsively use chapstick (woot for Burt’s Bees).
- I have two cats: Taz, a fat cat I adopted from the Oshkosh Humane Society, and Simon, a Siamese that sort of kind of got pawned off on me.
- I am definitely a cat person, although I like dogs too.
- My parents have the most hilarious dog ever; a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Henna.
- When I see her, it makes me realize how much I want a dog.
- But my apartment is too small for two cats AND a dog.
- Which is why I keep trying to talk the boy into getting a dog (boy owns a house)
- He’s not having any of it.
